What keyword density is good for
There’s no target number
Google has never published an ideal density, and its ranking systems don’t work by counting a phrase. Any tool that tells you to hit 2% is guessing.
What the count is useful for
Two checks. Is the phrase there at all, in the heading and opening? And have you repeated it so often that it reads badly?
Where the line is
Google’s spam policies name keyword stuffing: repeating words unnaturally to manipulate rankings. If a sentence sounds wrong read aloud, rewrite it.

02 Questions
What people ask
What density should I aim for?
None. Use the phrase where it fits naturally, cover the topic properly, and use the related words a person would expect to see.
Why does the tool flag anything over 3%?
It’s a prompt to reread, not a rule. At that rate a phrase appears about once every 30 words, which usually reads as forced.
How is the percentage worked out?
The words in the phrase, times the number of times it appears, divided by the total word count.
